Photography Is All About the Lights! By Joe Pellicone

Photography is all about the lights, and there are plenty of them during the holiday season! This time of year I love to shoot holiday lights, but many places don’t allow tripods. This is the case at RXR Plaza in Uniondale, NY. No tripods allowed inside or outside without a permit. That’s where Platypod comes in!
Everyone knows about Rockefeller Center in New York City. They have a Giant Christmas Tree and an Ice Skating Rink too. Well, RXR is the Long Island version of Rockefeller Center. Visiting RXR can be a bit tricky. The building houses a number of businesses, so you don’t want go too early or you will be dealing with a lot of people exiting work. I found that later in the evening on a weekday is best.
Once there, you immediately notice the reflections of the tree in the glass buildings. I found myself walking around the tree several times to find the perfect spots to capture.
The ice skating rink is only open on the weekends, so if you go during the week, you can capture it like this:
After working the scene outside, you can go inside to see another tree, as well as the interior decorations, not to mention some interesting architecture.
To wrap it up, no trip to RXR would be complete without my signature Moon and Stars shot. Enjoy!
