Behind The Scenes of Mando/Grogu Snow Walk with Jesse Feyereisen
Star Wars fans and toy photography lovers alike—you're going to love this one.
Photographer Jesse Feyereisen took advantage of a snowy backyard and a touch of practical magic to create a cinematic, atmospheric image titled “Mando/Grogu Snow Walk.” Using the newly released sixth-scale Mandalorian figure from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles, Jesse built a moody, widescreen shot that captures the essence of the iconic duo with nothing more than natural light, clever camera work, and a rock-solid Platypod setup.
“Wherever I go… he goes.”

Shooting Small, Thinking Big
Jesse kept his setup minimal—but effective:
-
Backyard location with a natural snow-covered ground.
-
Canon EOS R with an RF 70–200mm lens, shot at 1/500, f/4, ISO 100.
-
Platypod eXtreme and Platyball Elite to get his camera right down in the snow for that epic low-angle perspective.
The reflective chrome armor of the updated Mandalorian figure added a fun challenge. At one point, Jesse had to move deeper into the yard just to avoid catching the reflection of his house in the helmet!
To keep the figure steady against wind gusts, he used the arm and base from a set of "helping hands" to discreetly secure Mando—later removed in post. A bit of Atmosphere aerosol gave the air a light haze, which Jesse then enhanced in Photoshop and Boris FX to simulate gently blowing snow.
From Backyard to Galaxy Far, Far Away
“A relatively simple shot, but might end up being one of my personal favorites.”

The final image is a powerful example of how creativity, good gear, and thoughtful post-processing can turn a small-scale setup into a cinematic masterpiece. The Platypod eXtreme allowed Jesse to work at ground level, maintaining stability and framing precision in challenging winter conditions—proving once again that big results can come from compact tools.
