Fun at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge with Gilmar Smith

Words and Photos by Gilmar Smith

When I am at an amusement park, my priority is having fun with my kids. It's summer, it's super hot, and now even more with our masks on. There's always a lot of walking, and the last thing I want to do is carry a big heavy bag full of photography gear or a tripod. Still, I always love taking my camera with me to take cool pictures of my kids and everything around. My trick is to always choose one lens to bring (I know, hard decision!). I then strap my Nikon Z7 on my Black Rapid strap with the ball head and Platypod attached to it. That way, I don't waste any time setting it up when I need to, and the camera is always ready for handheld pictures too.

We recently visited Disney Hollywood Studios for my daughter's birthday, and I was able to snap a few pictures while having the best day ever with my kids at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. I have never been a fan of Star Wars (yeah, gasp all you want but it's not my thing!) but I can't deny the place is fantastic for pictures (the rides are pretty cool too!)

My lens of choice was my new Z 14-30mm f/4 lens (love this lens). Wide lenses are my favorite when using my Platypod, and you will see why on the images below!
