"Creating a unique image of an over-photographed icon is a classic photographer’s challenge. Our local landmark, the Golden Gate Bridge, is a hard one to resist no matter how many images of it already exist. It’s impressive up close and beautiful at a distance as dense fog and the 'City of Love' create the perfect atmospheric backdrop." In this series of three images, Riley uses her expertise in infrared photography for her interpretation of the Trifocal Challenge. The "Challenge" entails getting three totally different images with three different focal lengths, wide angle, normal and telephoto all from the same spot.

"Photographers are advised to be discreet at this location. My favorite approach is to tuck into one of the World War II bunkers where I have a 270° view that includes San Francisco and Angel Island. Once the Platyball Ergo ballhead is level, I can pan and zoom to capture a variety of scenes in infrared, my favorite medium."

"I must have bumped my tripod, or hit the shutter accidentally, during one of the bridge shots. The result looks like an earthquake in progress – an appropriate theme for this area. A bit tongue-in-cheek, we could call this technique 'unintentional camera movement'. In any case, it was a happy accident and my most unique photo of the day."
