Platypod Max in the Dunes

Photos and Words by Bob Coates

While out shooting, it turns out I wasn’t able to get the super grand vistas for which I was originally looking at the Imperial Sand Dunes in California. The tracks from the sand vehicles were just too much of a mess. But with a long lens mounted on the Platypod Max, I was able to isolate some fairly clean areas of the sand and get great results!

The steadiness of the mount enabled me to use two focus points, and I used focus stacking to increase the area in focus from foreground to background. After a little bit of cloning of the few tracks in post-production, I was able to get an image closer to my vision.

Check out the setup shot and final result below!
