Sun, Salt, Air, Platypod and SUNRISES with Jan Shannon

Jan mentioned that she always checks the forecast for sunrise and sunsets but usually go with her gut feeling on which location to shoot.

"I knew from reports there were big waves and I love capturing waves in action! I had planned on doing a long exposure but then my friend saw the buoy on the beach so I began to place it as a prop in the forefront of my capture. Its always fun finding things on the beach and using it in a creative way. I find that doing that creates more spontaneity in which my creativity thrives!"

As a hobbyist photographer Jan focuses her shots on "Sharing the Beauty of this world with others" and also "allowing them to see it from a fresh perspective". "Throughout my life I've learned the importance of connecting with nature and like to share that through my photography on Instagram."

"I use my Platypod quite often and I just love the ease of deployment which allows me to capture so many more subjects though the timing might be limited. I shoot in Raw manual mode with my Sony a7iii mirrorless camera with basic editing done in Lightroom and/or Photoshop (depending on the capture)."
