"When Jurassic Park was released in theaters in ’93 it changed the game for visual effects. The classic scene introducing the T-Rex in the rain is one of my favorite memories at a movie theater. I had this shot in my head for a while now (to pay homage to that scene), and I finally decided to give it a go."

"This tabletop setup included a 10” toy car and a 24” T-Rex. For lighting, I used both off camera flash and constant LED lighting for this shot. A Godox AD200 hidden on the other side of the car helped to simulate the headlights, a second AD200 on a stand with to provided the lighting effect that I would later add in post. Finally a Godox M1 RGB panel (set to red), helped to create some light spill from the taillights, which I would also add later. Then I used a water bottle for rain and Atmosphere Aerosol for some additional mist. My camera was setup on a tripod, Platyball and the new Platypod Handle. Next I began to fire off some shots!"

"In post, I used Photoshop to remove the joint seams in the T-Rex, replace the toy eye with a better one, added some saliva in the dinosaur's mouth, of course I needed to add some condensation from its 'breath' (roar) and lastly, I added a composite in a few overlays of additional rain and water on the lens. Finally, using Boris FX Optics I added some lighting in the sky and tail lights to the car. Finished, color graded, and cropped in Lightroom."

"Overall, I’m pretty happy with my final shot, however, I almost wasn’t going to share it due to not being happy the way my 'rain' ended up. Not 100% happy with how it’s 'frozen' and not streaking due to my use of flash. No worries though… this gives me an excuse to do another version from a different angle down the road sometime."
