01 | ULTIMATE OUTDOOR/INDOOR MACRO SETUP WITH STEWART WOOD

I started my macro journey in the home studio and as such, I developed an artistic style for my indoor macro work, a style that until now I couldn’t make work for my outdoor macro photography. One of the issues you come across when photographing insects is, they move around… a lot. Using the tools I’m about to show you, can make it easier for you to get the final capture that you want.

I used to use mini tripods from the pound store for my macro photography work, but they break so easily and really can’t hold much weight. So now, I use the Platypod and its supporting gear!

02 | MASTERING TOY PHOTOGRAPHY WITH SCOTT BOURNE

When you notice a photographer’s work, it’s probably because they have great vision. And I don’t mean that in a 20/20 sort of way. What I mean is they probably have the ability to look at something and see an opportunity to make a photograph where others see nothing.

I have that gift to a degree, although not as strongly as I wish I had it. You can learn and train it. You can exercise it. I have done all of that. But to a certain degree you have to be born with at least a little bit of it. Unfortunately, in my case it was a very small bit.

Regardless of my skill or lack thereof, I have always tried to see the final image I plan to make before I ever press the shutter on the camera. This is my preferred style of photography.

03 | TESTING THE PLATYPOD EXTREME WITH NATHAN REA

This particular photo was taken at one of the waterfalls within the glen. As I approached the waterfall, I was searching for a stable surface that had good composition and luckily, I found this rocky area at the front of the waterfall with some really lovely autumn leaves. This gave me some inspiration to use them as interest in the foreground of my photo. It also provided me with the perfect opportunity to get low and try out the Platypod. This shot was taken with a Sony Alpha A7 mark 1 with a 28-70mm lens along with a lee 100 polarizing filter to help remove any reflections.

We hope some of this inspiration will make you want to share your final capture, BTS shot, your URL where viewers can see more of your work and a little bit of copy describing your setup with the rest of the members of the group.

Especially if there is a final capture that you want to share, please tag Gilmar Smith and/or myself (Eryka Bagwell) for a chance to be featured on our blog, newsletter and/or social media pages. This will reach many other artists in the field and will help broaden your exposure as well.
