#FeatureFriday: Photographer T.J. Powell Gets Low with Platypod Ultra at Cars & Coffee Show

We first came across T.J. Powell on an Instagram post, where he tagged us on a really low, cool shot of a DeLorean; talk about nostalgia! We then posted his shot here on our IG wall, which lots of people loved! He was at a Cars & Coffee meetup and found the Platypod handy in getting those awesome low shots of a number of classic cars. We reached out to T.J., because he had even more cool shots that we wanted to share. We also like getting to know our photographers.

Tell us about yourself. Who are you? I have been taking photos seriously since the birth of my children. Over the past 14 years or so, I have developed my skills and approach to photography. I enjoy taking photographs in many different genres, including Weddings, Senior Photos, Family Portraits, Landscapes, Sports, Travel (especially Walt Disney World), etc. I have taken photos at a large number of events in my adopted hometown of Twinsburg, such as The Cost of Freedom, Twinsburg Community Theatre, High School Sporting Events, Twinsburg AC Soccer, Twinsburg AYSO Soccer, etc. If you are around town, I have probably run into you in the past.

What was your gear setup for your recent Cars & Coffee shoot? I used the Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS Lens. In addition, I use a BlackRapid Strap. For these low-angle shots, I used the PlatyPod Ultra.

What was your biggest challenge during the Cars & Coffee shoot? The biggest challenge is dealing with all the people. There were a lot of people walking around and getting into shots. As a result, I focused on details and not trying to get an entire car.

What was your favorite takeaway from the shoot? That low-angle shots with the Platypod came out great, and I loved the angles I got. The types of cars at this show are very low to the ground, and I did not like the shots I was able to get from above so I moved down low.
