"When I was first approached to be a part of this project, I thought 'Yeah! I can do this so long as I can incorporate a person in it.' As a portrait photographer, most of my imagery includes people and I wanted to include my granddaughter after watching her eat a cupcake and thinking to myself 'that would be a cute capture!'"
"I wish I could say after photographing children in natural light for thirty years, I would be prepared to photograph my own granddaughter, but that was not the case. Time, as always, is of the essence. Once a cupcake is gone, there is no more. My setup for this quick session had to be spot on. As always with children, you only have so many seconds before your subject loses interest and walks away. I set up my camera using the Platypod eXtreme and focused on my 'stand in subject' prior to having my granddaughter sit down. One never knows what will happen in those defining few moments and I got very lucky that I bought the right kind of cupcake and that it lasted long enough for me to capture what I wanted."
"These images were created with natural light using my Canon R6 and the Canon RF 85mm 1.2 lens. My settings were f 5.6 to make sure almost everything except the background was in focus. Since I wasn’t handholding my camera, my shutter was set to s 1/60 and the ISO set to 12800 to make sure I had a good exposure."
"The Platypod eXtreme is an amazing device giving me the ability to capture these images at the angle I needed regardless of how she moved. Once I started shooting there was no turning back and I realized I may need additional height which is why I grabbed the nearest thing to me which was a stack of paper plates. The whole session maybe took 5 minutes tops."
