Those pins help prevent compatible accessories such as monitors and lights from slowly rotating around the mounting screw, something that can be surprisingly irritating once you have carefully positioned everything.
When the pins are not required, they retract, keeping the Mini compatible with equipment that uses a standard mounting surface.

One Lever Does the Work
Rather than covering a small head with tiny knobs, Platyball Mini uses a single spring-loaded repositionable lever.

The base itself rotates through 360 degrees, allowing you to reposition the lever so it sits somewhere convenient rather than pointing directly into another part of your rig.

The Platyball Mini is built from precision aluminum and steel and has a rated load capacity of 8.8 lb, or 4 kg. That is substantial capacity for a positioning head measuring only 2.9 inches high.
