We’re thrilled to welcome award-winning photojournalist Kevin Painchaud as the newest member of the Platypod Pro Team!

Kevin brings a wealth of experience and a distinct visual style rooted in storytelling, emotion, and action. His background as a photojournalist has led him to capture everything from powerful human interest stories to high-energy performance art, and it's that unique blend of perspective and technical skill that makes him such a perfect fit for the Platypod family.

Spotlight Project: The Will to Dance

One of Kevin’s latest projects, a series of images from the short documentary film The Will to Dance, exemplifies both his artistic vision and the creative advantages of using Platypod gear in the field. Kevin served as Director of Photography on the film, which shines a light on the challenges young male dancers face - particularly bullying and societal pressure.

"In April 2025, I had the privilege of serving as the Director of Photography for a short documentary film titled The Will to Dance. The film explores the challenges male dancers face, particularly the bullying and societal pressures they often endure from a young age. My primary role was filming the interviews, but when not behind the camera for those segments, I captured behind-the-scenes photos of the dancers in motion. The shoot required a fast-paced, run-and-gun style, and the Platypod Delta proved to be an invaluable tool. Its lightweight, portable design allowed me to quickly set up low-angle, long-exposure shots with impressive stability - something a traditional tripod simply couldn’t provide in this fast paced environment."

The resulting photo series—also titled Will to Dance—is a striking blend of movement and emotion, capturing moments of vulnerability, grace, and raw perseverance. Kevin’s ability to anticipate action and work quickly in tight or unconventional spaces was amplified by his use of the Platypod Delta, which allowed him to shoot from creative low angles and maintain sharp focus even in challenging lighting.
