01 | OUTDOOR MACRO FEATURING THE OLEANDER BLOOM
If you’re planning to photograph in macro, it’s a good idea to have a couple of extra ‘hands’ to hold things in place. Bob Coates recently went out to capture this image of an oleander bloom and explains how he was able to stabilize the flower to avoid any wind/movement in his final capture. He gathered all of his Platypod gear which included the Platypod eXtreme (as the base for the camera) as well as a few additional grip tools (included in the eXtreme Macro Bundle).

02 | FOUR PLATYPOD’S ARE BETTER THAN ONE!

If you click to view the full post and look closely at the BTS image, you will see FOUR – yes you read that correctly, FOUR Platypods were used to achieve this shot. There are three Platypod Ultras – There is one down in the bottom right corner of the image with a Platypod Disc – mounted to an LED light that has been gelled blue.
(BTW that light is pointed at a silver bounce card and that bounce card’s only job is to push a blue light through the open door as Batman walks in and catches the Joker playing with the PacMan machine – AGAIN!)
03 | PRACTICE YOUR LIGHTING TECHNIQUES WITH PLATYBALL, PLATYPOD AND ACCESSORIES
How can you use a wooden model to set up your lighting? Well, allow us to share what fellow photographer and Platypod connoisseur Eddie Tapp was able to achieve with this final image and his behind-the-scenes set up. Give it a try for yourself and let us know what your results are!
You can accomplish the same look by roughly following the same steps that Eddie did (below) and you can apply it with a photograph of any Barbie type doll or toy action figure.
