01 | Trifocal challenge

The long awaited 2024 KelbyOne ON1 Landscape Photography Conference was last month and the Platypod team was there to share its latest challenge; the Trifocal Challenge.

During this challenge, owner/founder of Platypod Dr. Larry T. and Larry Becker demonstrate how to expand your photographic vision by shooting in three different focal lengths from exactly the same position. They present images from a wide variety of Platypod Pros who took the challenge and came up with exemplary captures.

02 | Sunrise at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park with Matt Seuss

"The Platypod eXtreme was an absolutely key piece of gear for achieving these low angle captures. At this location, there is no way that I would be able to configure my tripod to be both stable and supportive of my gear. While on site, I saw a fellow photographer struggling to stage his traditional tripod on the rocks to snap a similar style photo. As a matter of fact, it took him nearly double the time it took me to deploy my full rig and snap my final shot. Inevitably, he ended up attempting to balance his camera on a bean bag. I sure wish I caught that on camera!"

03 | Darth Maul Hottoys Toy Capture with Jesse Feyereisen

"A few friends tagged me last week on Instagram as part of a 'close up' challenge. I’m a bit late to the game here, but I was definitely inspired to give it a try!"

"I decided to try and get up close to my 12” Darth Maul figure from Hottoys and just really showcase the intensity within his eyes. I was able to get super close on my desktop using my Platypod eXtreme and Platyball Ergo! I opted for using the new Godox SL150R in a softbox as my key light. I also had an idea to add a Godox TL30 Tube light, not only to add a red cast and glow to his face, but sure enough, the figure's eyes reflected the tube light, making a nice little 'reflection' of an off camera lightsaber simulation. It totally worked!"
